All Tax Filing Deadlines in Canada for Businesses and Individuals Need to Know
Canada does not have a single, standard tax filing deadline — depending on whether an individual, a self-employed person or a corporation, each type of taxpayer is governed by a separate time frame, so being late may result in penalty interest long before one even notices it. At Beta Taxes, we keep an eye on all the Tax Filing Deadlines Canada needs.

Affordable Assistance with Every CRA Tax Deadline
Missing a CRA Tax Filing Deadline is more than just filing a form later; it’s a penalty that will be charged from day one at the rate of 5% of the amount owed, plus 1% for each extra month of delay. This is the exact reason why all of our clients usually turn to us long before any deadline arrives.
Beta Taxes can assist individual taxpayers, professionals and companies operating in the Toronto/GTA area in staying ahead of all deadlines relevant to them with reliable, fixed-rate tax filing services.

Why Tax Deadlines Catch Out Even the Most Organised Taxpayer
Failing to pay isn’t the problem – most people make the mistake of assuming the payment deadline and the filing deadline fall on the same day. Self-employed people have until June 15 to file, but any tax owing will be due on April 30th, and failing to meet the first deadline will mean you start paying interest beginning May 1st.
Corporations run into the same problem: the deadline for filing is six months after the end of the fiscal year, but the deadline for owing taxes is normally two or three months after, and businesses can often run afoul of their deadlines because they assume the deadlines are the same. It’s being aware of which deadline you need to meet that helps keep you out of trouble.

FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the personal tax filing deadline this year in Canada?
In general, personal tax filings are due by April 30th. Self-employed filers have until June 15th, but any tax owing is due April 30th. The dates for corporate filing will depend upon your fiscal year-end date.
When is the deadline for filing corporate taxes to the CRA?
For T2 filing, you will need to file your return within six months from your year-end. The payment of tax is usually two or three months after year-end, depending on the corporation type – it is the latter deadline that is missed the most.
I am self-employed, how late can I file my return?
The actual filing of your tax return is due by June 15th, but the tax owing is due by April 30th. The consequence of waiting until June to pay your tax owing means CRA will start charging you interest from May 1st, although your filing will not be considered late.
What will happen if I miss the deadline for personal tax filing?
CRA charges a penalty of 5% of the balance owing and an additional 1% per month of being late filing, to a maximum of 12 months. Interest will also accrue on your balance owing as of the day following your deadline.
When is the deadline for filing corporate taxes if my fiscal year does not end December 31?
For T2 filing, the deadline is six months following your fiscal year-end date, which is not necessarily the same as your calendar year-end date. We will calculate your deadline based on your corporation’s year-end date.
Is the GST/HST deadline the same as my income tax deadline?
No, it will depend on whether you file monthly, quarterly, or annually and is not always the same date as your income tax filing deadline. However, it helps to monitor it alongside your tax deadline.
I missed a filing deadline, what do I do now?
File immediately to prevent further penalties and interest from accruing for as long as you leave the return unfiled. We deal with late filings all the time and can help get you caught up.
Does CRA ever extend the tax filing deadline?
Rarely, but they may do so if the 30th of April lands on a weekend – then they usually extend to the next business day. Otherwise, extensions are rare and only issued when it makes sense due to certain situations.
Do you send reminders before deadlines arise?
We sure do – after we find out your individual deadlines, we put together a schedule based on them and keep reminding you of each of them as it comes.
Do you manage deadlines for both personal and corporate tax filings?
Yes, in fact, a lot of our clients are incorporated, and therefore they also require personal filing services in addition to their corporate tax filing.
