Why Pension Income Splitting Canada Regulations Need an Evaluation
Pension Income Splitting Canada enables eligible pension income splitting between yourself and your spouse or common-law partner by means of Form T1032, which may shift income from a high bracket to a low bracket, thus saving on taxes. However, there is not always a right to do it, and the determination is made based on the total financial situation of both spouses involved, so no assumptions should be made here.
RRIF Withdrawal Tax Planning is just as important. While it is necessary to withdraw the minimum amount from an RRIF once they become mandatory, planning the additional withdrawals, which can be made at your own discretion, can have an effect on your tax bracket for the year. Making unnecessary withdrawals can cause a higher tax bracket or even OAS clawback in some cases.

Expert Guidance for Canadian Home Sale Tax Matters
![]()
Alex has been so amazing! I sold my home shortly after moving to the UK on a temporary visa and it was so stressful navigating the Canadian tax system. Even from afar – across the world, Alex took his time walking me through what I need to do, advised me on next steps, and how he can help me through calls on Whatsapp and email. I received the letter I needed from him to proceed with the closing of my Canadian home sale. Thank you so much to Alex and the team for your guidance and help! I appreciate it so very much 😊.

FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
What pension income qualifies for spousal splitting?
Pension income eligible for splitting would include RRSP and RRIF (for individuals age 65 and over) and certain annuities payments. Note that Canada Pension Plan income (CPP) is not eligible for this form of splitting although there is a process whereby CPP is divided.
What kind of savings can I expect to realize using pension income splitting?
The extent of the savings varies depending on the degree of income disparity between spouses (the greater the income differential, the greater the savings). We calculate the actual savings for you as we do not presume the existence of savings.
If I exceed my minimum withdrawal from the RRIF, how is this taxed?
The amount exceeding the minimum will be taxed as earned income at your marginal tax rate for the year. It could cause you to be pushed into a higher tax bracket or even cause OAS to be clawed back.
Should I report OAS benefits that have been clawed back?
Yes, you will report all OAS received and we will determine whether there will be an OAS clawback based on your net income.
Can you assist if I receive income from CPP, OAS, my pension, and RRIF all at once?
Yes — it was designed to help coordinate multiple sources of retirement income into one complete return.
Is pension splitting automatic or do I have to elect it?
It is not automatic, as both spouses have to make an election together using Form T1032 to split eligible pension income.
What is the cost for retirement and pension tax filing?
It depends on the number of income sources and slips. We provide you with a flat-rate price upon review of your particular situation.
